SHE for PND aim to offer Support, Hope and Empathy (SHE) for those touched by Post Natal Depression (PND).
The official launch of Write from the Heart 2nd Edition, personal stories of post natal depression was held on Tuesday 7th October 2008 at St Catherine’s College, UWA, Nedlands, with unveiling of the new booklet performed by the Hon Dr Graham Jacobs MLA, Minister for Mental Health.
Write from the Heart Editions 1 and 2 has been compiled by the women of SHE for PND, for women, their partners, family and friends, with the aim of creating a better understanding of Post Natal Depression through the expression of personal stories. Their hope is to reach out to those touched by PND and reassure them they are not alone.
Write from the Heart Edition 2 is primarily a booklet for mothers and their families to create a better understanding of PND and also a tool for health professionals when introducing the concept of PND to a suspected sufferer. On Pages 4 and 5 of the booklet it details PND including symptoms, risk factors and basic strategies to begin to get treatment and recover. It is envisioned that the health professional could use these pages to aid self diagnosis (in conjunction with other available tools such as the Edinburgh Post Natal Depression Scale), note the personal health plan for the patient and then give them the booklet to take away for further reading, information and action.
Write from the Heart Edition 2 can also be accessed by women directly or by their support networks through this website.
Motherhood is not always easy, and for one in seven women, it can lead to Post Natal Depression.
